For the record, I don't think any statues should come down without the
governing body making that determination (government, school or city). That said, the argument on the right has changed from "protect our heritage" defense of Lee, et al., to a broader defense of all statues. Things have changed from the beginning of this mess, and the rioters have pulled down all types of statues, but its important to remember how the defense has morphed.
Its also important to note that Trump is using this dispute for selfish political reasons, and that he has paid lip service, if not direct support,to the people whose arguments have not morphed from the original "heritage" argument, which is as transparent as it gets.
