VA we have no such signatures to match. So if they mail a ballot to my dad that passed away in late '18, quite possible since we resist purging voter rolls, there is no way to verify a signature should I return that ballot for him. I just bought a place last year from a elderly couple that moved into assisted living, if I get two ballots here for them, there is no way to verify a signature should I return their ballots for them. Add my own, and that's 4 votes for Trump and nothing to stop it. Much more concerning, since there is no way to verify signatures or otherwise disqualify ballots, is what prevents someone from printing hundreds if not thousands of ballots for names on the voter rolls they know haven't voted in recent elections, and submitting those ballots be it for Trump or Biden. Again, likely won't make any difference in places like CA, NY, or AL, but in swing states, and in lower ballot races, it absolutely could. And I sure as hell don't rule out the Trump haters from being willing to do so. So why even allow for that possibility? If you're truly worried about Covid, you can spread election day into election week or even election month if need be, yet you don't see anyone pushing that idea.

As for the absentee process mentioned, I don't really have an issue with that and allowing more people to use that method, as I'm a proponent for making voting as easy as possible as long as we can verify it's from a legal voter that should be casting that vote. I believe that's what VA is doing (and we're much more stringent than most on absentee and early voting). But that's a wholly different process than just mass mailing ballots to all voters on a voter roll we know is full of names no longer eligible to vote based on the info on those rolls.
