of himself in public. However, a private company has cause to terminate an employee if their words / actions create a hostile work environment or detrimental to the business.

For example, the Niners and other NFL teams had every right to not to resign Colin Kaepernick regardless of the chicken shit optics. Unfirtunately, even good messages have potential consequences for Kaepernick. That said, it's liable to collude in preventing a certain person employed. Keapernick's settlement implies the morons colluded to keep him out of the NFL.
