No forever. It was formed out of the uncoordinated intelligence effort in
the wake of 9/11. Now it controls a federal paramilitary force being used against citizens, not to mention it's controversial use of force against illegal immigrants and refugees. It has 240K employees and costs $50B per year. At the very least every line item in its budget needs to be assessed. If we're going to keep it, it also needs a real director with Senate confirmation, not some "acting head" who is a political appointee endeavoring to establish a private army for the executive branch.
