If I'm Biden, I'm agreeing to one debate and one debate only.
Like almost everything else, Trump's strategy for debates has been lower the ball so far he can't help but trip over it. He never preformed adequately in the 2016 debates, but he was so bad in the first debate that he was given credit for not being completely unprepared in the other two. He is notoriously bad at preparation, he is an incumbent facing historic unemployment, an uncontrolled pandemic, and a record of poor performance in foreign relations. He has no plan for addressing any of those issues, is poor with citing statistics or evidence to back up his arguments, and lacks historical knowledge or constitutional reference. With a single debate, Biden could continually redirect questions to Trump's lack of anything resembling a plan. Every insult could be answered by some version of, the president continues to attack me personally to distract you from the fact that he has no plan for X. My plan on the other hand is Y. The truth is, Biden doesn't even have to present a good plan, just a plausible one. By comparison, any sensible plan will look presidential. Throw in an occasional comment about Trump's unconstitutional initiatives and proposals, and Trump looks like he not only doesn't have a plan, but does not understand the Constitution he's sworn to uphold(which of course, he doesn't). I could easily see Biden winning one debate by a wide margin. After that, no reason to give Trump the opportunity to redeem himself.
