That chart looks bad, but not nearly as bad as when you map it against the


case curve. Cases first hit 10K 23 days ago on July 2 and have averaged in the ~10K +/- range since then. That is a 14 fold increase in cases from where they were running in May. Hospitalizations appear to have gone up by about 3 fold since may (~150 range for the moving 7 day average to ~400). It's certainly not "good" to have a 3x increase in hospitalizations by any stretch, but much better than a 14x increase if they had tracked the increase in cases. Cases seem to have peaked for now (see chart), and it's been over 3 weeks since cases really spiked, so I would think the jump in hospitalizations already reflects the big run up in cases from the first of July. At least I hope so.

I'm not a Desantis fan, but I've defended his response for the most part on this board. But he's come out with some statements lately that make me want to walk back some of that defense.
