Basically, what he's asserting is that, nationally, there is more diversity among the "Latino" community than there is among the AA community. It doesn't sound at all to me like he is saying the AA community is completely homogeneous, but rather there are significant differences in thinking across the Latino community. 1st v 2nd v 3rd generation? Puerto Ricans v Cubans v Mexicans v Salvadorans v Columbians v Domicans? The Bronx (which has more Puerto Ricans than San Juan..) v El Paso v Little Havana?

Interestingly enough, I think the AA is becoming more diverse with new arrivals from different places in Africa moving from 1st to 2nd generation and beyond (was anyhow...). I'm guessing a lot of the differences before that were regional and urban / rural (like the whities that have been here for generations).
