I don't disagree. In theory, he's right and he has

taken the Chinese on in ways that others haven't. In practice, I think the tactics have been off. If anyone can win a war of attrition against the tariff man, it is the Chinese.

So definitely he has been a thorn in the side. That said, he clearly doesn't have the ability to mobilize collective economic might to really make life difficult (and really drive sustainable changes). Our influence in the world is waning, almost by design and to the delight of the Trumpletons. The Chinese don't even have to divide and conquer - he's doing it for them. He also can't get out of his own way at home, further distracting our government. Even before Covid, he was running budget deficits during an economic expansion that would make BHO blush, with China holding ever more of our debt.

You have to think that the Chinese are ok with the trajectory overall - even if there is a little pain to endure in the process.
