Trump's obviously terrible and incompetent.
What chafes me a bit is the way the Russia conversation has completely slid off the rails due to hatred of Trump and lust for controversy, but it's an important and widely misunderstood issue abused by the media, one I'm inclined to be interested in (foreign relations and Cold War is what I studied undergrad, media is interesting to me, am no expert but something I follow.)
There's a philosophical pivot point re: relations with them that has broader implications for foreign policy and general orientation to the way the world works, and how the US can best function and lead within that, an issue of world order. I'm on the side of the signatories of that letter, there are opposing views, but the common understanding of it and way opinions on foreign policy relationships are frequently expressed by people who follow politics is really dumb and dated at this point imo. Which is in no doubt partly Trump's fault, but it's not all that. It's really unproductive to think Russia will turn into France or Germany and put the screws to them unless they shift, imo, and a relic of a faulty worldview, Biden and future leaders should grasp that. That nothing much has changed with isolationist, nationalist Trump is evidence of how deeply ingrained the posture is.
