Please, please, please just...
...address the arguments I make, not the ones that you think I make. I have NEVER said that there's nothing we can do about COVID (or climate change, for that matter). Here's what I'd be in favor of doing regarding COVID:
-- Improve data collection and dissemination regarding the virus (e.g., testing, deaths, mortality, demographics, etc.), particularly with respect to using consistent (and meaningful) definitions of terms. This includes the Trump administration, BTW, which I believe has done a piss-poor job in this area. There is WAY too much confusion out there, as we see on this very board, about what is actually going on. To me, this is the single most important thing we could do.
-- Ensuring testing and care are available for anyone who needs it (I think this has already been achieved, as I'm not aware of anyone who can't get tested or get treated for COVID if they need it.)
-- R&D for therapeutics and vaccines (This is being done)
-- Encouraging mask usage, particularly when in confined spaces. (At this point, I'm not convinced that masks are necessarily a positive or that their benefits outweigh the downsides, so I don't think they should be mandated. I understand that people can disagree in good faith on this point, so I'm not saying that mask-wearers are stupid, and, in fact, I wear them when I'm around other people indoors.)
-- Protect those most vulnerable to the virus (e.g., the elderly and the already sick/unhealthy).
