Democrats underestimate the percentage of people who are tired of the restrictions. I'm not endorsing that view. I'm not trying to start a disagreement over the merits of it. It is what it is. But I think it drove some to the polls that might have otherwise stayed home or even voted against Trump, all other things considered. I believe we saw it reflected in the exit polling where 50 percent of voters said they believe the US has done a "good job" handling the coronavirus.

"I'll vote for anybody who tells me I don't have to wear this mask anymore" is an actual quote from a co-worker a few weeks back. This is not a woman who is politically engaged at all. I think that sentiment is stronger among the electorate than many realize and I think it may have boosted Trump's support on the margins. At least that's my theory...
