He seems to have thought a number of things about himself.


William Manchester indicates in his "Death of a President", that LHO was all over the map as to his Marxism and/or communism tastes. There is a statement attributed to him that he rejected communism as practiced in the USSR, as being just the opposite side of the coin of American capitalism. He left the USSR after about a year there and apparently they wanted him out and the feeling was mutual.

His Russian wife, Irena refers to him as an habitual liar, indicating that he would say lots of things, oftentimes contradictory and quite grandiose.
