after so much has transpired since January 2017. My expectations for his competence and accomplishments were very low from the start. I underestimated though, the abysmal nature of his character and his complete disregard for the rule of law and our democratic institutions, in favor of his personal interests.

I find it remarkable that the stature of the presidency, the history of the office, the great responsibilities of the job, the humanity and greatness of the men who held the job previous to him, and the interests of the people of this country NEVER made an impression on him. NONE of that seemed to register in his consciousness or be meaningful to him. No one around him seemed capable or willing to effect any kind of change. ALL of this is mind blowing in retrospect, even as it became its own "normal".

Even more remarkable is the idea that many people are ok with all of that. I hope that they will reconsider the totality of the office of president when next they weigh the qualifications of future candidates. I would hope that they raise their expectations as to what the job demands. Right now I am not optimistic on that score.
