I remember one discussion where a few people pointed out the fact that, ironically, the Electoral College was designed to allow the “grown ups” to check the masses in the event that someone fundamentally unqualified and unequipped to be president was elected (which is 100% true) but mostly just in a “well, that’s ironic” fashion. But don’t recall any real discussion about it actually being an option, and in fact quite the opposite (that it would be a terrible precedent to set and would damage the hell out of our democracy).
