have become too militaristic and they don't operate with transparency in too many cities. I also think we rely on them to do things that traditionally should not be considered within the purview of law enforcement. I also think that by their very history, police forces have stood in the way of civil rights and equal protection for minorities. I also think that the War on Drugs is an insanity that has helped lead to the growth of police departments, undermined the Castle Doctrine, increased crime and increased the prison populations.

I think we need to reformulate our public policies which will lead to reduced need for law enforcement and to smaller police departments. Obama didn't do enough to shake up this status quo. The Defund the Police crowd is just a slogan-based knee jerk reaction. The fact is that communities need cops but we need them to be responsive and accountable and we don't need to be arming them to the teeth to fight this continuous drug war.
