Nope. It's badness
Ministries of Truth, in any form, are a horrible, awful, no good, very bad idea. That includes things like various forms of the Fairness Doctrine.
I would be in favor of making more obvious required distinctions between things claiming to be hard news and things that are merely opinions, but that only accomplishes so much. FNC could replace the chyron during Hannity's show with an endless loop of "THIS IS AN OPINION SHOW THAT DOES NOT EVEN TRY TO BE FAIR AND BALANCED" and it wouldn't stop legions of the easily led from using it as their primary source of "news". The same applies to MSNBC and Maddow.
There is no fix for stupid, and people will always naturally congregate to things they find more favorable. Seeking out multiple news sources specifically to get differing sides of issues and examining those different reports objectively and critically requires a level of effort and ability that a vanishingly small percentage of humanity is capable of. On this very board there are numerous examples of posters who are clearly very intelligent and well-educated individuals who are entirely uninterested in paying any mind to tings they disagree with. And that's people who should and DO know better!
