It's not like that oil will just be left in the ground, it will just have

to be moved by rail or truck which is less safe and less environmentally friendly. Not to mention benefitting much less friendly countries. One of the best things we can do IMO is be energy independent from the ME and other bad actors, while also helping our Euro and Asian allies be less dependent on them. This will ultimately make little difference and certainly little benefit. It's all about throwing a "bone" to an extreme emotional wing of the party, not wise policy.

I will neither confirm nor deny your last line. :-)
