For starters, you act incredulous over the prospect that 5 years in prison in exchange for altering a single vote is a massive deterrent. Only an insane person would engage in something so asymmetrical on the down side. It is a massive reason that we don’t have more than nominal instances of fraud (and nothing suggests this year was any different from any prior year).

Coordination to rig any election is all but impossible. Our pres election isn’t only 50 separate elections, it’s 1000s. It’s virtually as many as there are counties in the country. There is almost no chance to rig just a single state without expanding the “cone of silence” past where it could stay silent. Not to mention nationwide.

Trump spent 4 years obsessing over voter fraud, including this fantasy that dead people vote in any material way at all. In fact, they don’t. Trump’s effort 4 years ago, because of his hurt feelings over losing the popular vote, was nothing but a waste of resources. It simply fizzled. Because there’s no evidence. Because it doesn’t happen. See paragraph 1.

Lastly, we have a long track record in 5 states of mail in voting. Its only impact appears to be increased voter turnout. Assuming that is not something you want to avoid (which is the suspicion about repubs), everyone should love mail in voting by this point. We know from a mountain of evidence that vote by mail is safe, secure, and encourages participation in our democracy.

And thus it should be the model for the rest of the country.
