He had the paperwork proving that in his glove compartment. He claimed that he did not know that he needed to do anything else to be legal. The gun was unloaded and he had no ammunition for it in the car.

I suspect that if the circumstances were different or if he handled them differently, Coach Young would have "Booted" him.
