They are jurors in a trial. This is no ordinary trial. They have a vested interest in the outcome because their jobs as Senators may hinge on an acquittal. That kind of goes with the territory since this is a political event, not a legal one.

However, the added dimension in this case, is that unlike ANY other impeachments, many of the GOP jurors are complicit in the crime of the defendant and some are literally co-conspirators.

They ALL want to wash their hands of this, the sacking of the Capitol, and the deaths involved. They would be even more eager to do so if a Representative or a fellow Senator had been killed.

This is not unlike the trials back in the Jim Crowe days in which much of the jury are friends, accomplices, or colleagues of the accused crooked sheriff.
