I'm actually in favor of the death penalty IN THEORY, but not in practice.
So that makes me opposed to it. Not a Virginia resident by the way.
In Theory - I'm fine with revenge. I'm fine with some people being put to death because they committed a heinous and unforgivable crime.
In Practice - it takes too long. 13 years later, maybe the person who did it HAS reformed in some way. Also I'd want the death penalty to have a 0% error rate. It doesn't.....people on death row have been exonerated at a rate much greater than 0%. Finally, it's not even a money saver. The total cost of the death penalty (given all the court costs, etc) actually ends up more expensive than life in prison. And given that one of my concerns is the non 0 error rate, I'm not comfortable rushing the process.
