Saudi Arabia is the gold ring of the Trump peace process.


Israel and Saudi Arabia have been geopolitical allies for years. The string of peace deals were between Israel and Saudi orbit countries, where geopolitical alliances were normalized - the path ultimately leads to Saudi Arabia.

Which of course seems a long way off given Saudi internal politics. But if Biden has any hope of trying to follow up the momentum that the Trump deals started, he can’t just blow up the relationship between the US and SA. I think publicizing the intelligence assessment is a good step. But this isn’t an easy line to walk.

It wasn’t for Trump either. Can’t complain that he didn’t blow up the relationship; it’s just he didn’t try to walk the line at all. He mocked MBS for his clumsy cover-up, and not much else. This step by Biden is an improvement on that without blowing it all up.

A lot of moving parts in the Mid East, including reopening talks with Iran. Too early to judge imo.
