Way too much hand-wringing on this thing. The country is already in the
hole and this is why we shouldn't have deficit spending when we're in a growth cycle and don't need it. It's why we shouldn't be wasting money on fighter planes that'll never fly or walls that will never be built. It's why we should be paying more in taxes (yes I said that). We can quibble about this or that in this bill. But what we should have done last year was a) aggressively work to prevent the spread of the pandemic with a national rather than piecemeal plan, and b) just pay people 70-80% of their salaries rather than have companies lay them off and pay unemployment. Yeah, I would have gotten rid of the various corporate slush funds that they used primarily for stock buy backs. I would rather that small business owners get that cash.
It still would have cost a bundle. It's the nature of the problem. As to the rest of our deficit financing addiction, that will need to be addressed sometime if anyone cares to. It will require taxation as well as budget reductions though. That's just a fact.
