The absolute numbers are up by more than can be explained
by the decline in in-person attendance. Here's a press release on ESPN's Sunday night baseball viewership.
"Through two weeks, ESPN’s 2021 Sunday Night Baseball viewership average is up 33 percent from the 2020 full season average, according to Nielsen. Sunday Night Baseball is generating an average of 1,585,000 viewers, compared to 1,191,000 viewers in 2020.
I don't think nearly 400K more people are turning into Sunday night baseball compared to last year because they're not attending their team in person. And the comparison is to last year when NO ONE was attending in person. So in-person attendance is up at the same time that viewership is up.
