What on earth gives you the idea that Trump could have beaten anyone in a
landslide?
For starters, being a mature and responsible leader just isn't in his DNA. If it were, he wouldn't be him (and wouldn't have the cult following he has).
For two, his disapproval rating has been north of 50% since his inauguration. And that's not because of bad decisions he made, but because he is what he is and a majority of Americans see him as a grotesque bully. I don't see any circumstances where >50% of America would have voted to re-elect him, certainly not the 55-60% needed for a landslide victory.
And let's be clear -- he was sitting at >50% disapproval when the economy was going gangbusters and there was no pandemic, and his party got completely annihilated in the 2018 midterms (save a few red state senate races and the Florida governor's race) thanks in large part to him.
Best case scenario for him was a repeat of 2016 -- a thin-margin electoral victory with a likely popular vote loss. And to get there he probably needed someone as awful as Hillary to run against. Which is why they were terrified to run against Joe Biden from day one.
