I was just reading up on Dancer's Image, dq'ed in '68

There the owner went to his grave thinking somebody sabotaged his horse.

But they knew they had given the horse Bute, but within an acceptable time before the race. It just didn't metabolize as it should have 99.9% of the time. I would expect something like this could have happened here, but for Baffert claiming he NEVER used the drug on the horse, which would certainly seem to be a verifiable claim.
