1/6 was an insurrection. It was a violent attempt to overthrow
The lawful results of a democratic election. None of the BLM protests, violent or not, attempted that. The insurrection was doomed to fail from the word go. Which does not change what it was. Those who protested and remained outside the Capitol did nothing wrong. Those who violently stormed the capital, violently attacked cops and attempted to violently attack members of Congress, not to mention hang Mike Pence, attempted to overthrow the results of the election. Which is an insurrection. Nothing in our history normalizes that.
Nothing that happened prior to 2020 and 2021 normalized any of Trump’s and his allies’ antics in 2020 and 2021. From lies still ongoing about Dominion, to attempts to coerce local and state election officials to do his bidding, to highlighting January 6 as a date to overthrow the election, to calling on Mike Pence to disavow the election in violation of the Constitution, to watching as 100s of members of Congress voted against certifying a fully confirmed vote, to now calling any election repubs think they may lose “rigged!”
No matter how desperately you continue to gaslight yourself and try to minimize with a “oh yeah you did it too!”, you’re not gaslighting me or anyone not 100% in the bag for Trump. There is nothing normalized about any of that or his refusal to concede after his court challenges were exhausted. Amounting to an assault on the courts, which are the Constitutional arbiter of such disputes.
Two wrongs not making a right is as true as it ever was. Particularly when the only possible way to see two equivalent wrongs in any of this is to retreat into a world of Trumpian fantasies.
