Fairly eclectic mix now...
there are the commune holdovers you referenced from the 60s/70s (primarily liberal), old generation Rappahannock (conservative) and an odd group of those that recently moved to Rappahannock which is a bit of everything from Hispanic families, tech workers that abandoned the beltway, those that relocated from neighboring counties for the small school system (about 60 kids per graduating class now), etc. There is also a smattering of the government types you mention. All-in-all the population is decidedly conservative.
Bob's visit has created a bit of a stir though. His actions were out-of-bounds regardless of how you lean politically.
