Didn't he say, essentially, that they're not just going to leave it up to a
group of very vocal parents to decide what / how they teach in public schools? I think the quote was something to the effect of "I don't think parents should be telling schools what to teach". Easy to decontextualize I suppose, I'm guessing he regrets that one.
I'm no Terry Mac fan (didn't vote for him last time around) and I think school systems are fighting battles that don't make sense, but I wouldn't conclude from that remark that he believes there is no role for parents. We have elected school boards (accountable to voters, and the ones that care are the parents or potential parents), we have curriculum committees, we have open discussions (unfortunately, people have found many ways to screw those up recently). I think he just means that he's not going to let the loudest group of knuckleheads impose their values on others without thought and consideration (including from those with expertise).
Am I wrong? I'm guessing my conclusion doesn't fit the narrative and would be hard to fit onto a bumper sticker - but let's be intellectually honest. I'm still not sure I would have made this the focal point of my campaign if I'm Youngkin. [Post edited by Capital City Hoo at 10/19/2021 08:52AM]
