and Chicago (not so much the tony residential neighborhoods, but "downtown" areas where more people with means seem to be moving these days). People with louder voices will start to feel it, the tax base will take a hit, and the pendulum will swing. Only a matter of time before people in NY are calling for the return of stop and frisk - LOL.

In all seriousness, though, the "defund the police" summer of 2020 should be in the rearview mirror and fading at this point (it better be for Ds running for office in contested districts). I still think we need some measure of reform (what happened all of those pledges post George Floyd?), but I think we need a well-staffed, well-trained police force too.

The Rs will make hay while this is happening, though. Unfortunately, the GOP's leader has no credibility on the subject, and ambassadors in places like this don't really either (from what is psychobilly developing his perspective? Fox News?).
