Some of it is controversial. Tuck linked an interesting piece a few


weeks ago - passing it along below. I can see how some would believe a few of the principles are controversial. A fairly extreme view of systemic racism, the idea that race is a social construct... that racism is embedded in all of our systems as a way of enabling white supremacy. The role of whites in all of this, etc.

I think it is appropriately provocative for classes in law school, etc. Appropriately provocative for courses in identity studies. For grade school, I can see wanting to just stick to the basics with an unvarnished recounting of our history (some of which is very, very ugly), discussion of how that history has shaped the world we live in today, even discussion about bias - both conscious and unconscious.

So without addressing the question of whether people really are teaching this in public schools, I can see why people would want to give a think before doing so.
