Interesting. Very similar to a comment I just heard about the Rittenhouse
Trial in this linked NewsHour segment from last night, which I just watched. Capeheart, the lefty in this discussion, agreed that if he’d been on the jury, having received the judge’s instructions, he would have had no choice but to vote to acquit. He also related an anecdote of a black Ohio man shopping at a Walmart for gifts, who picked up a toy rifle as he shopped, and was shot down by police as a potential active shooter. Contrast is that in states with similar gun laws, a black man was shot down while shopping like anyone else with a plastic gun he intended to buy as a gift, while a white kid who brought a real rifle to a riot and ultimately killed two people, got a pass from police that night (compared with being shot dead while shopping for toy guns), the judge, and the jury. His point is that although the shooter and those shot in this case were all white, the black community still sees patterns of racial inequality.
Abernathy, the righty, was appropriately critical of all those celebrating anything about this case. Basically, we don’t have to agree with the verdict, we do have to abide by and respect it, but there’s nothing to celebrate. 2 people dead, one wounded, and a teenager who had no business playing Rambo at a riot escaping prison, but now representing different things to different people. Another wedge driving the country apart.
Also a good discussion about build back better. Abernathy specifically rejects the inflammatory and false “socialist” label so popular with Trumpie congressional reps, and focuses on the legit debate about differences in views about the role of government.
