Curious if you clicked on the link to the actual letter, or if you just

Read the outrage peddling in the Washington Examiner. The article makes it seem like the letter is a full blown assault on Thanksgiving Day traditions. An attempt to destroy the holiday. But the letter itself actually makes no mention of additional historical context and perspectives until the very end. Most of it is plain vanilla stuff about the past year, trumpeting efforts to get schools reopened, encouraging all the Covid protocols at Turkey dinners, the days schools are closed, etc. (I’m surprised jpm hasn’t linked something making it sound like the entire letter was about thanksgiving day Covid protocols - a different propaganda piece might do that). Even the site’s link to the letter adds bold emphasis to the “land acknowledgement” line at the very end - presumably to ensure readers riled up by the death of thanksgiving don’t miss it and think “what the hell is this article whining about?”

The repub party is hell bent on painting a picture of schools as trying to tear down American democracy. By exaggerating things like this. By finding isolated examples of race-based lesson plans, like one in Great Neck somebody linked here, as though that happens everywhere, although we only hear about the one example. Expanding understanding of students of the different perspectives of American history will strengthen the country. This letter did not encourage families to make Thanksgiving all about white guilt, which is the angle the Washington Examiner is hawking. By distorting the letter.

You want to talk about threats to the future of the USA? It isn’t in attempts to better acknowledge the wrongs in American history in our schools. Check out this link to a front page article in that liberal rag, the WSJ, from earlier this week. It discusses how Trumpism has now made belief in false claims about election fraud in the US a litmus test for candidates. America will survive a broader, fuller, fairer understanding of its history. Imo, it will be strengthened by that. It will not survive the destruction of faith in core institutions, such as our elections.

Or of faith in our schools. Ultimately, the real story in your link is a rwnj rag assault on our schools with a mischaracterization of a letter.
