I would invite you to read this article by Candacy Taylor for a practical
expression of how our society has manifested and nurtured racism over the year. I had never heard of the "Negro Motorist Green Book" until only a few years ago. I have, since I was a kid, just taken for granted that our highways opened up a vista of possibilities to all Americans. But of course, it was all white Americans. This seems mundane until as a black person you had to plan for navigation very carefully, lest you put your life in grave danger.
Like the infamous redlining, the development of white suburbs, like segregation, all these things developed nasty systemic legacies that we continue to deal with, including the exclusion of black Americans from substantial wealth accumulation particularly after WWII. The solution to these problems literally starts with education.
