No. As someone else has pointed out this would just lead to what is


in effect a gerrymandered senate. The North Carolina legislature just recently was wildly out of balance in the Rs’ favor compared to the split between the parties in the popular vote for statewide elections. A judge called it gerrymandering done with “surgical precision.” That legislature in no way reflected the state. Why should it be allowed to elect the state’s senators? No. Repealing the 17th would just be another effort by Rs to govern without the support of the majority.
