Why? I think you can make the case they're very generously paid. A brand
new O-1 makes just under 50k in salary plus 15k to 30k in housing benefits depending on duty location and family status. Call it 70k or so plus great medical and pension for somebody fresh out of school? Zip recruiter says average brand new BS degree makes $67k with, I'm sure, lesser benefits. I think this is one reason defense keeps going up, no matter who wants it. You cannot afford to be seen as not generous to military personnel or hardware.
