Just because they're buffoons, doesn't mean they aren't dangerous.

I will agree that most of those who illegally entered the Capitol on Jan 6, 2021 aren't necessarily bad people, they're stupid people. They didn't properly consider or understand the weight and import of their actions. They are children, led to ruin by nefarious individuals who intentionally exploited their stupidity.

But that doesn't excuse their actions, and doesn't erase their treasonous behavior. It is unfortunate that simple pawns will bear the brunt if not the entirety of punishment for the insurrection, but ignorance is not an excuse, and its damn sure not a defense.

We as a nation must defame their actions, and we must do so in a way that provides the precedent of a memorable and daunting deterrent for all those who might seek to do likewise in the future. And similarly, ensures that all future parties understand the magnitude of such action.
