Maybe that’s part of the reason to invade?

The Russian military already has a problem with their demographics. In order to maintain a standing army of 1 million men they have to have twice the % of males in the combat age range as other nations such as the US and other European nations in uniform. And this demographic is getting worse not better. They could always increase enlistment time commitments but that negatively impacts other parts of their economy that also need workers in that late teen to early 20s range. So maybe they take back some of their old Soviet territory and diversify their military? I suspect they will have a difficult time getting today’s Ukrainian youth to fight for them? You did want a serious answer, right ?
