Mental health screening of over 300 million citizens in a system

That doesn’t even require comprehensive background checks for all firearm transactions. That’s a good one. This suspected shooter was a known member of a fairly small community, and somehow it appears they missed all the flashing red signals of his mental illness.

Maybe because there are no universally recognizable indicators of such things. It’s completely subjective. We have problems getting waiting periods of several days in place for gun purchases, but the answer to our problems is magically effective mental health screening of 100s of millions of people. Now that’s what I call solutions based thinking!

Now that “thoughts and prayers” has been run into the ground and is ridiculed as a response to these things, I guess new magical thinking is in order. We’ll just magically screen the entire country for all those universally accepted signs of mental illness likely to lead to mass shootings! Maybe we can shoot a magic mental health screening laser from a satellite!
