From what I can gather, it looks like Asheville followed a similar
Pattern to much of the rest of urban America. Police defunding had momentum in ‘20, not mentioned in the linked article about the budget just passed there, but which I saw as I was googling around. Talk of proposals to defund police by as much as 60% around the end of ‘20. Crime has reportedly spiked there as it has in the rest of urban America (although still way below levels 30 years ago), and calls against defunding started. There was a slight increase in funding in the current budget.
I think we saw emotional calls to defund the police 2 years ago, which are now looking like a good idea to fewer and fewer people on the left. [Post edited by hoolstoptheheels at 07/02/2022 08:35AM]
