Story doesn’t say what the suspect was charged with?


I’m gonna guess that the suspect was illegal to carry based on a prior mental health diagnosis or something similar? I would also think carrying a rifle in one hand in a mall is brandishing (although probably not in Texas) and probably not charged with that since he only caught one charge. This is part of the problem with open carry laws. People can walk around in public with an assault rifle and there is no way to distinguish them from a mass shooter and a non-mass shooter until they actually start to shoot people. Georgia created that scenario when they made open carry lawful in airports. You have gun-nuts walking around in the terminal at Hartsfield carrying assault rifles.
