The developed world when it comes to guns. Both in the numbers per capita, and their most frequently cited purpose (personal security in the US). I think the article’s stats on whether guns really do make households safer are accurate too, although I’m no expert.

So the article asks valid questions imo. Maybe the theory about historical reasons for distribution of gun ownership isn’t the whole story (which the oped acknowledges), but the distribution itself doesn’t seem surprising to me.
