Not really, tbh. The old system was even worse — CFB never even got a real

Champion. I think the difference is alumni at more schools cared about the sport and there was a lot more interest in alumni going to a warm weather destination for New Years.

But there were plenty of shitty bowls no one attended or watched back in the day too, not to mention automatic tie ins or early invites ruined any chance at a real compelling national championship matchup. So yeah, you had the Rose, Sugar, Orange, and Fiesta stacked up on New Years Day, and I guess that was cool, but half of those games were joke matchups that didn’t actually prove who was the best team. Most years the two best teams didn’t even play each other.
