Obama cuts last minute ad endorsing Macron.

I don't really have a strong opinion on this, but thought some might. Is this going too far too influence another country's election? Macron is likely to win regardless, but Brexit, Trump...

The linked article also describes how contentious the latest Macron-LePen debate was, apparently a new threshold crossed for French politics with perhaps more insults than Trump-Clinton.

One kind of interesting dynamic on the side is LePen is always described as Far-Right, versus former Socialist Macron. The National Front definitely is Far-Right with their history, nationalist focus and immigration policy, but her economic platform is well left of Macron, and that is playing a role in the election. Macron wants to enable 40 hour work weeks, LePen says no working past 35 hrs and no cuts to the safety net, for example. Just something I think is interesting re: the left-right, globalist-nationalist dynamic.

"The former US president said he had chosen to declare his support, in a video tweeted by Macron on Thursday afternoon, because of the importance of the election.

“I’m not planning to get involved in many elections now that I don’t have to run for office but the French election is very important to the future of France and the values that we care so much about,” he said.
