overall, even as online grocery delivery continues to grow (which it likely will), but some of them are so poorly run in very basic aspects that it will not surprise me in the least to see several become extinct. Many will blame it primarily on the online-delivery trend, but they are missing how poor a job some brick and mortar do now compared to others. As a seafood supplier to several, I argue all the time very simply -- essentially every single retailer now has the exact same access to the exact same products (across all items). Some of them are smart enough to discern the good from the bad (both products and suppliers -- individual vendors can make a huge difference even if vendors are offering the same products) and simply understand things like the value of supply chain relationships, some of them are atrocious and couldn't care less to even try. Some stores/brands are simply run from the top down by better people. It shows in their stores through every employee. Also, some wildly different cost structures across different stores (union vs. non, other legacy cost problems). Brick and mortar can survive and many are absolutely thriving. Plenty should go.
