Yeah it is a bad precedent.
But it is both sides fault. Even if the news was looking at Trump harshly, in the end his actions are the one's that are blowing up in his face (lying, Comey, Don jr.). The press has praised him for a couple of things (State of the Union, Syria) and then he shoots himself in the foot.
I understand why it is bad to immediately question the legitimacy of a President and call for impeachment, but it would be just as bad to give a grace period where anything goes.
So how much of it is a plot to take down Trump, and how much of it is Trump shooting himself in the foot? Its both.
And at this point the precedent is already established (on both sides). I wish it wasn't. I think the only way to avoid it is for a squeaky clean person to be elected President. That is much harder said than done. I think a military guy would be a good chance but thats about it.
