Wife and I both have relatives with the middle name of "Lee"

I have researched it and find no history of that being a surname in either family, so I can only conclude that it got started after the Civil War and is in fact a reference to Robert E. Lee. So what can we do? Is it enough to try and convince our relatives to change it? Should we ostracize those who refuse? And what about the family cemetery?
