Gov. Sam Brownback and the supermajority GOP legislature have spent years cutting taxes, cutting spending and, like most current conservative supply siders, praying that the money for basic services will come pouring in as God intended.

That has not happened, of course.

But with these underfunded basic needs not being met, the Kansas government has been working hard to make sure that defects in services -- whether defect by omission (as in lack of funding to do anything) or commission (where lack of funds causes gubmint to do stupid shit) -- are hidden from public view.

The Kansas City Star's 6 month long investigative report reveals some truly awful practices in opacity:

-- Forcing a parent of a kid who died during state child welfare custidy issues to sign an NDA hiding the state agency's role.
-- Firing a transportation director who, in response to questions about a dangerous ramp on I-70, said that KDOT basically had no money to fix the issue
-- Allowing bills to be introduced in the legislature with anonymous sponsorship
-- Hiding from the public exactly who benefits from corporate tax credits ($530 million in 2015)

This is your GOP dreamland, folks!
