I think you missed his point. Imagine if none of this was true for a

moment. And yet a total fabrication can lead to his own party abandoning him and calling for him to step down, while the media and the opposing party attacks him relentlessly.

In this age of outrage, it's downright frightening to think you could just totally manufacture outrage to take down your opponent and get away with it. Next thing you know, you could have a Senate leader stand on the Senate floor, tell a blatant and unsupported lie about their opponent not paying taxes, and get away with it. Oh wait....

FTR In this case my gut tells me there is some truth here and he's even admitted to some of it, including parts that are "creepy" enough to keep people for voting for him. But for the sake of sanity, and a hope that good people aren't kept away from running because because they could be dragged through the mud on blatant lies, we should hope there is indeed some truth here.
