All evidence points to a big fat NO on that one
Neither Trump or many other key cabinet members have shown even basic 101 level understanding. Wilbur Ross, for example, continuously goes on record saying we need to reverse all trade deficits and the U.S. should essentially carry a trade surplus in everything. They have shown zero understanding or care about the jobs and supply chains in this country actually tied to trade. What is worse, they think they understand it all and have all of the answers (I'm wondering if Oprah might at least admit she has a few things to learn), and all evidence is that they have no interest whatsoever to listen or learn. We haven't fallen off a trade cliff yet, but we are moving hard in the wrong direction and several things are on the precipice. About the only counterbalance right now are some of the deeper Trump supporters possibly pushing back. For example, China and Canada are neck and neck as the top U.S. destination for U.S. Agricultural exports (with Mexico a close third) and with other Asian markets being some of the biggest areas for growth. What this administration did with TPP is a global joke and as the rhetoric has mounted regarding NAFTA and China trade battles, there has started to be some real push back from at least some in Ag world -- generally the heart of some of the red states.
